How we can help

Teen Counselling is a free service providing professional counselling to young people and their parents/carers who may be struggling with behavioural and emotional problems.

Who is it for

Teen Counselling is for any young person between 12 and 18 years old with issues causing them to feel worried or stressed. You might not feel yourself, have problems with school, parents, or family, or have a mental health concern such as anxiety or low mood.

How we help

We look at all the issues that come up for young people at what can be a challenging time in life. We are a family-centred service. This means that we also offer support to the significant adults in your life, such as your parents or carer, so they can also support you through these difficult times. We sometimes have counselling sessions with young people and their parents/carers if the young person thinks this would be helpful.

What issues do we help with

We know that there is a wide range of issues and problems that young people can experience in their teens, which can also affect their families.

Some of the issues we deal with in counselling include emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, low mood and self-harm; family breakdown; bereavement; trauma; bullying; substance misuse; experience of being in care, gender and sexuality.  We also work with young people who have behaviour problems at home, school or in their local community.

We link with other services that may be involved in the young person’s care, such as schools, juvenile justice, Tusla, CAMHS, GPs and other voluntary organisations. This ensures that the young person can get the best available help and support they need.
