Crosscare publishes our Annual Report for 2023 this week in advance of our Annual Church Collection, which takes place throughout the Archdiocese of Dublin this Saturday and Sunday (September 14th & 15th)
Our annual report and financial statements outline the increasing demand for our services for those most in need last year, and this has remained the case for 2024.
Lack of access to rental accommodation remains a critical issue for hundreds of our clients, and they find themselves unable to move out of homeless services. Meanwhile, hundreds more families and individuals are struggling to retain their current accommodation.
In 2023, Crosscare accommodated over 800 individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Access to rented accommodation continues to prove extremely difficult, and where it is available, the rents are well beyond affordable levels for our clients. Despite the enormous challenge, staff were able to help 72 individuals and 15 families move into their own homes last year.
As well as providing Homeless accommodation, 6,000 households (families and individuals) were in contact with our Information and Advocacy service last year because they were at risk of eviction, struggling to afford their rent, or unable to access the State support to which they are entitled. This critical work ensures that hundreds more families do not enter homeless services; it is also proving exceptionally demanding as larger families, in particular, struggle to retain their current accommodation.
In 2023, demand for our services remained high across all projects. Examples include;
- Youth Services expanded their street work, detached work, and outreach to over 4,500 marginalised children, young people and their families.
- Provided care and accommodation for 35 young people who had no home
- Helped 180 young people who left care when they turned 18 and faced life on their own
- Supported over 1,400 people seeking International Protection.
- 700 people helped by Crosscare Counselling Services
- The Irish Diaspora Support Project directly supported 12 families fleeing war in Gaza
- Helped 750 families, including 1500 children, with food and support
