At Crosscare, we are working to change the conversation around food banks – we offer a unique food poverty and casework service to give people a hand up in the long term, not just a handout for the short term.

Crosscare Food Services provides dignity-focused support to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and financial pressure. Our approach moves beyond the traditional foodbank model by creating welcoming community spaces where people can access nutritious meals, select their own food, and receive one-to-one support from case workers.

People are welcomed into a café environment where they can enjoy low-cost meals, connect with staff, and receive practical support tailored to their needs. This integrated approach ensures that food is only one part of a wider support system.

Looking ahead, Crosscare is committed to expanding this model, sharing our learning, and continuing to advocate for solutions to the underlying drivers of poverty. Through our frontline experience, we see daily how issues such as inadequate income supports, rising living costs, literacy or language barriers, and complex family challenges impact people’s ability to cope. By working closely with statutory bodies and community partners, and thanks to the generosity of donors, we hope to expand this service in the months ahead.

Crosscare Food Services offers a hand up, not a hand out—support that empowers people to rebuild stability and move forward with dignity.

This short video highlights the value of this targeted work and its positive impact on the people who come to us seeking support.
