Our Youth Service in Swords was delighted to welcome the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland, Nancy Smyth, to hear first-hand about our work with the Heroes Project in Belfast.
The Heroes Project is centred on four behaviours: fun, listening, respect and discipline. Every August, up to 6 professional ice hockey coaches from Canada come to Ireland and give their time to pass on their skills to some of our young people from Swords and Finglas alongside others from the Ballynafiegh Youth Service in Belfast. Forty-five young people will take part this Summer.
The programme aims to give young people a unique opportunity to learn and develop life skills in ice hockey while developing their aspirations. It supports and builds relationships between young people from different backgrounds—every young person who participates gains from this experience and takes away positive messages from this unique project.
