Young people from our Ballybough Youth Service recently travelled to Limerick to attend the Fresh International Film Festival, where their short film The Heist was nominated for an award.
This year’s festival held particular significance as it marked the 30th anniversary of Fresh, a major event in Ireland’s film calendar that celebrates emerging young filmmakers and their creative achievements.
The Ballybough group were recognised for their work, receiving the Junior Highly Commended Award for their short film, which they wrote, produced, and starred in themselves.
In the same week, members of the Ballybough Youth Service also attended a special event at the historic Mansion House in Dublin city centre. The venue hosted Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards. This prestigious red‑carpet ceremony forms part of the Fresh Film Festival and highlights the talents of Ireland’s next generation of filmmakers.
One Ballybough participant, Kyle Hogan Bennet, had his documentary “IRL” nominated for an award, earning him a place among the country’s most promising young creatives.
